Our 1000Y Range and Covered Rifle Shooting Lines are Temporarily Closed!
On 08/05/17 the Granby Board of Selectmen, acting as the Zoning Enforcement Officer, issued a Cease & Desist Order for use of our 1000 yard and covered shooting lines. We have filed suit against the Granby Zoning Board of Appeals in Boston’s Land court.
Many of you visiting this page already know as the only 1,000-yard rifle range in New England, we take our responsibility to our members, visitors and neighbors very seriously. Because of this, we strive to provide a safe, one-of-a-kind shooting facility for everyone who visits our club. We also try our best to be good neighbors, always hoping to work with and address the concerns of the residents who live nearby.
However, a small percentage of residents feel that our efforts are insufficient and filed a complaint that the Club violated various zoning laws. The Granby Select Board, acting as the zoning enforcement officer and then the ZBA, ruled against the Club. We feel their decision was in error and not supported by law.
Because of the complexities involved in defending the club against such a coordinated attack, we have retained attorneys who will represent the club and assist us in navigating the most successful outcome possible. As we all know, attorney’s fees are expensive. And so far, the club has already incurred more than $20,000 in legal fees. We expect even more expenses as we bring our case to court.
It was our hope that we could satisfactorily address any legitimate complainants. However, we understand that some people will never be satisfied unless the Club’s ability to function as an active range is severely curtailed or the Club itself is closed. Therefore, we have every intention to vigorously fight for our Club and for all who shoot here.
If you believe in our mission and the value that our Club provides to the long-range shooting community here in New England, we ask that you please help us by donating to our legal defense fund by using the form below. All monies will go directly defending the club and will be used for no other purpose.
We understand that you may not be able donate money at this time, and if that is the case, we ask that you share our cause with your fellow shooters so more people can learn about our situation.
Thank you for any support you can provide.
